Album Review: Los Males Del Mundo – Descent Towards Death (Northern Silence Productions)
Los Males Del Mundo combines today’s modern Black Metal sound and late 90’s melodic Black Metal with lyrics deeply influenced by Friedrich Nietzsche, Emil Cioran and A. Schopenhauer. Their first full length album, “Descent Towards Death,” is an invitation to a conceptual journey, dragging the listener into the darkest and remotest places of the human soul.
You know Los Males Del Mundo have confidence in what they’ve crafted here when they begin with a 12+ minute effort. Falling into Nothing begins in a haunting way, building towards a dark eruption of melodramatic black metal. The feeling of grandness is immense yet there’s also a sense of danger that comes from the gloom that surrounds the guitars. When they do finally let loose, it is from the deepest and darkest of black metal pits to send the heart into palpitations. 12+ minutes flies by in a blur of scathing bleakness and it’s impossible to not find yourself falling headfirst in.
How do you follow that? With a couple of shorter but just as crushing efforts. The Silent Agony and Eternal Circle of Vain Efforts both come with hefty blasts of classic black metal horror to light up the mind. Two tracks that burn with the righteous fires of hell but with varying tempos. Heck, the latter of the two even has a guitar solo in it.
It’s back to the intense blackened focus with the epic sounding Nothing but A Lie. The guitars alone will be ringing in the ears long after it has stopped. Before The Heavy Burden ends things as they begun. With a monumental and lengthy trawl into the wonderous mind of Los Males Del Mundo. Where the horror is beautified and the descent towards death is far more appealing than most would think.
