Album Review: Lifvsleda – Det Besegrade Lifvet (Shadow Records/Regain Records)
Lo and behold, Det Besegrade Lifvet – the debut full-length by Lifvsleda, and follow-up to the highly acclaimed Manifest MMXIX EP that hit the underground last year with its furious and rotten old-school black metal – is set to be released on the 11th of September by Shadow Records/Regain Records.
We enjoyed Lifvsleda’s Manifest MMXIX EP calling it a great slab of old-school black metal and to the surprise of no-one this debut full-length is more of the same.
More of the same horrifying and evil sounding black metal, built on the foundations of the past but not hamstrung by it either. Especially as Lifvsleda have a fair bit more instrumentation to their sound making it almost have a ‘post’ ring to it.
Rooted in darkness and with twisted fury pouring from every inch of Det Besegrade Lifvet. The nine tracks of this album are every bit a hardcore old-school black metallers wet dream. However, that doesn’t mean even those with a cursory interest won’t find it enjoyable too.
While not as accessible as some black metal, Lifvsleda’s level of rawness is nowhere as jarring as many ‘old-school’ bands claim to be. It has a sharpness and a toughness that makes it feel liable to cut and scrap but is also smooth and rounded when you least expect it. The balance is very well done and it makes the album literally fly by in a blur of bleak horror and heaviness.
A clear step up and clear progression from their last release, Lifvsleda are a band to watching closely.
