Album Review: L’Homme Absurde – Sleepless ( Soundage Productions)
L’Homme Absurde are a post-black metal band from Russia who released their second full-length album ‘Sleepless’ on March 26th 2018. An album which can be considered as a logical follow-up of the band’s creativity, the working formula of first album “Monsters”, but with more influence of hardcore/metalcore music.
What an impressive release this is. A stunning combination of black metal with a real modern and fresh style that appeals to the darker side of the soul. A raging torrent of metal kicks things off with Cleansing the Temple before affirming melody shows off the ‘post’ elements of the band. A great opener, it is followed by the equally impressive Black Hole. Heavy as hell but filed with emotive and sorrowful melodies.
The Quiet Room’s amazing rhythm is arguably the best track on the album as it dispenses with the harder black metal sound (expect within the vocals) resulting in a really layered listen. Yet it is then followed by the just as brilliant Moments in Coma, a sublime offering of post-black metal that helps make Sleepless a genuine contender for album of the year.
Are they done though? Hell no.
The latter part of the album sees Nausea, Insult to Injury and Carriers continue the wide array of face-melting heaviness and life-affecting melodies. The latter is one that draws upon the power of a band at the heights of their talent and further solidifies the level of great metal that is coming out of Russia in recent years.
No ifs, no buts…hear this album.
