Album Review: Leach – Lovely Light of Life (Brutal Records)

If it’s burly, melodic, and fits together perfectly, it’s probably from Sweden. Leach certainly fall into the above categories, and their warts-and-all style of thrash ‘n’ roll is just begging for a throwdown.

Lovely Light of Life is their third album and will be released on May 21st 2021 via Brutal Records.

Thrash ‘n’ roll baby, always a reason to get excited about but even more so when it’s coming out of Sweden. Leach are all about the heavy head-bangers with speed and furious intent all while delivering banging anthems.

Snarling and spitting, the rawness of their thrashier side is clear from the start but it also doesn’t take long for their more melodically pleasing side to emerge either. This is seriously compelling stuff and there’s no fighting the urge to head-bang. Especially when Leach move a tad towards the stompy hardcore style, brief moments but notable.

The strength of the album comes from the anthemic heavyweights that are Serenade (For the Broken Brave), Scorched Earth Tactics, True North and Gaslighting. Just four relentless tracks on an album that is constantly and consistently relentless.

11 grimace inducing tracks fly by in a blur of jagged riffing, thumping percussion and crunchy vocals. Leading to a wickedly fun bonus track called D.O.D and featuring Soilwork’s Bjorn Strid. A must listen as it’s got so much melodic death energy that you’ll be left grinning from ear to ear.

Thrash ‘n’ roll baby. Leach have well and truly delivered.
