Album Review: Johansson & Speckmann – The Germs of Circumstance (Soulseller Records)

Two towering giants of death metal – Rogga Johansson (Paganizer, Revolting, Ribspreader, etc) and Paul Speckmann (Master) – have joined forces to once again kick the world in the ass! Johansson & Speckmann’s The Germs of Circumstance will be released October 9th 2020 on Soulseller Records.

Paul Speckmann says:

We’ve come to album number five with the Johansson-Speckmann project. I take great pride in working with the fellas and creating the lyrics for these killer songs Rogga writes. It’s an honor and a pleasure to work together of course. I hope you all enjoy this latest installment. The Germs of Circumstance is coming to a shop near you!

Rogga Johansson says:

For this the fifth album we stepped it up. Its faster and harder and more aggressive than before. And that fits J&S killer. This will make you utterly happy if you like it raw and dirty.

The duo’s last release, From the Mouth Of Madness was well liked by us and both individual artists always impress so there’s a ton of excitement surrounding this new album. The duo’s fifth offering, The Germs of Circumstance is teeming with aggressive death metal life.

The short and punchy offerings leaving no time to dwell, just a ton of head-banging enjoyment to be had. The duo’s immeasurable talents combining to craft what is as clear-cut heaviness as you can possibly get.

However, that’s not to suggest the duo are just going through the paces though. Sure, this might come easy to them, but they’re still more than capable of surprising and intriguing. Especially when they’re throwing out thrashier riffs, a kick-ass bit of meaty groove or a deliciously evil hook.

It’s an easy album to love, even more so if you’re already in tune to the more extreme side of metal. Five albums in and this duo are sounding just as strong as ever.
