Album Review: Industrial Puke – Alive To No Avail (Suicide Records)
Swedish crust/death metal juggernaut Industrial Puke is set to unleash their ferocious second album, ‘Alive to No Avail’, on March 28th, 2025, via Suicide Records.
It won’t come as too much of a surprise to the uninitiated that the summation of this new Industrial Puke record is ‘noise’. Frantic and cathartic noise, that comes with the nastiness of death metal, the vigour of hardcore, and the intensity of crust punk. Twelve (mostly) short and sharp jabs to the mind, body, and soul that demands little else from the listener then for them to let the chaos consume. It’s a very easy demand to give into.
The first third of the album is Industrial Puke at their hottest, arriving in blistering style with Daily Chest Pain, a track with gang shout vocals that sound immense. A track that just makes you want to dive into the nearest pit. Although that could also apply to the following Hoax-Mongers, Flaccid Provider, and Skid Textures. Industrial Puke promise an ‘freeing’ experience here, and that is what we get. A chance to just let it all out, with aggressive intent.
The cacophony of instruments that makes up the title track is where we really get the stench of death with Industrial Puke. Yet, what makes the beating so appealing is the primordial style it has. Tracks like this are great, but there is no arguing with the exceptionalism of more extensive examples of ferocity. Tracks like The Regretful Climb, where the band get even more experimental. Fusing black, groove, and thrash into their aggressive sound. The methodical tempo and how that evolves as the track goes on makes it so listenable, but it also has an anthemic chorus. It’s a beast, but so is Strangled from the Inside, even if this one is a more familiar blast of frenetic fury.
That continues into the latter half of the record too. Industrial Puke have no remorse and even less patience, delivering a punishing combination of drums/guitars with Nothing More to Give, and old-school hardcore vocal savagery with Inverted. These are the best examples of the mania that makes up so much of Industrial Puke’s sound. Although the following Rational Asshole and its two-stepping beat is pretty damn fine too.
There’s one more ‘big’ one in the form of Biblical Corpse and it’s a right old head banger of a metal track. Hell, it even has a guitar solo, and a bloody good one too. Before this unrelenting, but addictive album wraps up with an Industrial Puke classic, a violent smack around the head that will leave see you seeing stars. Nice one.
