Album Review: Incisions – Bliss (TNS Records)
With a sound as furious and unrelenting as the times we live in, Manchester punks Incisions return to deliver their long awaited second album. Bliss will be released via TNS Records on the 2nd April 2021.
With a ton of distortion, feedback, and furious snarl, Incisions come bounding out of the gritty alleyways of Manchester with pissed off intent. British hardcore punk that stays true to the spirit of the scene but isn’t afraid to take a chance here and there. Incisions spit absolute fire with You’re Not the Same and Fuck the World. Proper ‘in your face’ stuff.
We then get some chunky and chuggy rhythm with the kick-ass Fighting Myself (the chorus is bloody catchy) before Repeat Prescription goes hell for leather in regards to opening up a hardcore pit. Feverish stuff with a sickening ton of vehemence.
Whereas The Fluke is exactly the savagery that you might expect from a distorted slab of short hardcore, Back of the Line’s punky groove and energetic bite is so much fun. The difference between these two tracks is very noticeable but it is still clearly Incisions thanks to the gruff vocals. It just shows the range the band has and that’s very exciting.
Flying by in a blur; No Shame, First Impressions, The Sweeney and Broken Home keep the focus exactly where it should be. Frantic and turbulent, the ear-splitting blend of distortion, thick punk noise and hardcore spirit is so appealing. You’ll be dreaming of those sweaty pits after hearing these.
Which does make the guitar strum and shouted vocals of Better such a surprise. Transfixing, especially as it’s the longest track by some distance. The lyrical content, the way the vocals are delivered, the faster beat as it goes on… amazing stuff.
I’m sick and tired of suits and lies!
Though that’s not how Incisions leave things. Ending instead with something more to type with 43 seconds of eye-watering noise in the form of Insecure.
Holy shit, where have Incisions been hiding? Manchester’s best kept hardcore punk secret? Hopefully, not so much anymore. Bliss is a banger.
