Album Review: Implore – The Burden of Existence (Church Road Records)
‘The Burden of Existence’ is the highly anticipated new album from Implore, and the follow up record to 2019s ‘Alienated Despair’ (Century Media). It will be released on October 28th, 2022 via Church Road Records.
Four albums in and still pushing the boundaries of extreme heaviness, Implore are back with their heaviest and most interesting work to date. An album that rages hard from the very start but across its ten-track run, showcases development and progression that will surely win them a lot of new fans. While, of course, pleasing the fans that have been there from the start.
The explosive mix of hardcore and metal on Prior Void sets a high bar early on but if you’re after something that is disgustingly heavy then the title track’s throbbing instrumentals and frantic hardcore energy will deliver. Chaotically charged intensity.
Which also applies to Archetype, Implore playing out of their skins and dragging us down to filth-covered depths. Followed then by spitting, snarling and vomiting Masochistic Tendencies, and the innate aggressive stance of Accept the Loss. Implore really letting the guitar riffs shine in the latter but delivering something that feels dark and dangerous overall. The intensity of this band is on another level and by the halfway point, it’s fairly obvious that this is the band’s most hostile work to date.
Exemplified by the punk-infused liveliness and technical edge that Sun Deprived has and the gore-covered savagery that Failure Through Self Preservation has to show. Implore making a strong case for the most furious sounding album of the year.
With Ultimate Freedom, the punk edge that Implore have drip-fed throughout the album so far is more prevalent here. However, it’s blended with stompy hardcore vehemence and head-banging riff work. One of the best tracks on the album as it makes you want to go absolutely wild.
From that to Love Will Gradually Perish, where Implore move from a melodious intro to crashing and banging metal. Before taking the listener into dark and ominous sounding depths. Kicking and screaming, you’re going with Implore. Which leads to an end that can simply be described as carnage inducing. Albeit with these drop-offs into erratic and eccentric melody.
It’s a savage finale and the cherry on top of an album that showcases progression while delivering all the nasty heaviness that Implore fans desire.
