A six-track tome of harsh and horrible blackened death metal, Imperathron bring the heavy on this album. Beginning in ominous fashion, The Human Must Be Overcome exudes threat with its atmospheric intro. Something that is realised as the heavier instrumentation begins to rise, taking over completely and expelling a demonic force of death metal speed. With a thick, bulbous vein of blackened horror running through it, this is an evil introduction to the album.

After such a glorious expulsion of horror, Ophidism of the Gods has some work to follow it. Happily, or maybe that should be unhappily, it’s also a slice of heavy and noisy brutality. Albeit, a little shorter and tighter. The instruments batter away, while the vocals roar with fiendish power.

An impressive and hearty slice of all-out savagery then arrives in the form of Demons of Steel. Before Death Will Give Me Glory proves that Imperathron has way more than just malicious intent going on. Tracks like this leave you feeling black and blue all over and the worrying thing is that there are still two more tracks to come.

The title track serves as the penultimate track and sees Imperathron finding reserves of darkness few could have, or would have, expected. A lengthy trawl through the chaos of wriggling and writhing hellishness. The blackened clamour ringing in the ears and disorientating the mind until all you can do is sit and weep in the dark.

Is there any Mercy for the Despicable? Not according to Imperathron who conjure up one last horrifying sound to leave spirits well and truly broken. A shocking showcase of detailed savagery.
