Album Review: Holycide – Towards Idiocracy (Xtreem Music)

‘Towards Idiocracy’ is the third full length album from Spain’s premier thrash metal battle tank, Holycide. Following on from 2023s rampaging EP, Bazookiller, it will be released on June 6th, 2024, via Xtreem Music.

Thrashing, smashing, crashing, and bashing, it’s Holycide and they have a brand-new ten track album of fast, frenetic, and heavy metal for all to enjoy.

Well, I say all, but this is such a thrash metal album through and through, you’re probably not going to like this if thrash has you breaking out in hives. The Holycide approach is not complicated, they promise a barrage of venomous heaviness and that is what they deliver. From the moment A.I. Supremacy hits, the desire to jump into the nearest pit is very strong, and that only increases as they discharge a torrent of neck-breaking heaviness with the title track, Remote Control, Life is the New Truth, and Power Corrupts.

Half the album flying by in a blur of razor-sharp riffing, shrieking solos, thundering bass, crunching drumbeats, and vocals that snarl with excessive aggression. It’s an onslaught of thrash metal, and it’s damn fine thrash metal.

No frills, no flair, and no excuses, Holycide’s mission statement is to simply kick your ass with this album. A mission well and truly accomplished when they’re knocking out vigorous blasts of heavy like Technophobia, Angry for Nothing, Pleased to Be Deceived, and Flamethrower ‘em All.

Sitting amongst that collection of thrash exquisiteness is a cover of the Atrophy classic ‘Chemical Dependency’. A track that fits Holycide perfectly, and the band deliver a rousing cover, not messing with it in the slightest.

There’s really not a lot else to say. It’s a thrash metal banger that isn’t going to change the world, but it does make it that bit heavier.
