Album Review: Heretoir – Wastelands (AOP Records)
On May 19th, 2023, Heretoir will release the mini album, ‘Wastelands’ via AOP Records. A release that features 3 new tracks and 3 studio live recordings of their most well-known and successful tracks off their previous release, The Circle.
Three epic and heavy examples of Heretoir’s call to arms, be in from a societal or planetary perspective. There is Anima, delivering an explosion of blackened heaviness melded with intense atmosphere. There is At Dusk, with its ethereal melody and attractive, but despairing tone. Finally, there is the title track, a combination of the two. Both destructive and deep, it’s an epic effort that takes the listener on a journey.
Heretoir’s belligerence isn’t done with those three new tracks though. Now, it’s time to remind listeners about the quality of The Circle with three choice efforts from that album performed live in the studio. Heck, if this was an album that slipped under your radar, this mini album gives you a great chance to immerse yourself in three of the finest tracks from that record.
From the dramatic and sombre Golden Dust, to the harsh blackness and melancholic feel of Exhale, to the delinquent and punchy rhythm of The White. Three excellent tracks that sound as strong as they did upon original release.
Worth hearing for the new tracks alone, the bonus of the three studio live efforts makes Wastelands a must listen.
