Album Review: Hellfuck – Diabolic Slaughter (Godz Ov War Productions)

Trash/speed metal band, Hellfuck will release their new album ‘Diabolic Slaughter’ on September 9th, 2022, via Godz Ov War Productions.

The Polish thrash and speed band Hellfuck make no apologies for their anti-religion stance, nor do they any excuses for Diabolic Slaughter being a straight-forward blast of thrash and speed. It’s as straight-forward as it comes, familiar speed and heaviness that all fans of metal will recognise and enjoy.

You see, while Hellfuck may not be aiming to change the world with this release, they do at least compliment the familiarity by being blisteringly good at it. Diabolic Slaughter is a ten-track blast of churlish and ruthless heaviness. An album that is very easy to head-bang too, thanks to hefty slabs of noise like War Obsession, Reigning in Hell, God in Flames and Despise the Priest.

Not that a specific selection really matters as the whole album delivers on circle-pit inducing mayhem. Pick a track, it’s going to be fast, furious, and very heavy. What’s not to enjoy?

Ok, if you can move the mayhem to one side. There’s nothing particularly exciting about Diabolic Slaughter. It comes and it goes. While the metal that Hellfuck are playing is solid and extreme, there’s not much in the way of creativity and does mean the album as a whole lacks a spark. The spark that makes it more of a memorable release.

You’d be a fool to see this as a reason not to check it out though. Hellfuck have crafted a record that embodies the ferocity of thrash and speed metal which is more than enough of a reason to enjoy it.
