Album Review: Heartlay – Sovereign Sore (Self Released)
Industrial metal/metalcore band Heartlay release their brand-new album ‘Sovereign Sore’ on April 21st, 2023.
Where the bloody hell have these guys been hiding? Why aren’t more people talking about them? They have a great sound that combines hyperactive industrial beats with rampant metalcore heaviness.
Sovereign Sore starts off so hot with A Thousand Debris, a manic dose of heavy intensity with an infectious chorus. It’s the perfect introduction to this album, and for some like us, this band. Now the question is if this pace can be maintained across the rest of the album.
With a darker tone and moodier tempo, Itch by a Leech ramps up the heaviness nicely. Heartlay making claim to being the industrial metal band everyone should be listening too. Accompanied by the massive riffs and thumping bass lines of Broken Seams, the coarse sci-fi effects of Ascend Anhedonia, the absolute chaotic energy that the title track exudes, and the heart-racing Breathing in Embers. Heartlay certainly know how to keep the listener engaged.
Take a deep breath and enjoy the worrisome ether of Sentence. Preparation for the latter portion of the album and Heartlay at their fastest, heaviest, and most industrialised. As the One I Am, Stalemate (Dying Breed), Carnivore as Well, and It Burns on Its Own. Four more massive bangers that keep the heat turned up, turning the masses sweaty, and leaving satisfied smiles on everyone who spends time with this album.
