Album Review: Heart Of A Coward – This place only brings death (Arising Empire)
Heart Of A Coward are here with their new album ‘This place only brings death’ available September 22nd via Arising Empire. Having never listened to Heart Of A Coward before, I was interested after I saw their FFO.
This album is immediately heavy, lovely production and huge blast beats. What more is there to ask for?! This is angry music for angry people.
Second song ‘Captor’ is more of that angry aggressive noise, I’m just imagining this in a live environment, as if they were playing the whole album and I can imagine it going down a treat. Super low tunings and catchy enough choruses are what make up metal core these days and Heart Of A Coward have plenty of that. I do like the sampled ‘Cap-tor’ into a breakdown though! Third song starts with war drums and lots of floaty leads. The chorus is catchy and it’s clear Heart Of A Coward are well versed at this stuff.
‘Devour me’ is much more of what we’ve heard but with an edge of electronica, which I am super down for! I love the fast breakcore-esque breaks in the song and I’d love much more of that. ‘Decay’ at the halfway mark has a vibe of like ‘oh shit!’ immediately but doesn’t at all go the way I think it’s about to. It’s calm and then heavy and then frantic all in one. Good stuff.
‘Ghost’ is ironically, hauntingly beautiful. I’m a huge fan of the tappy leads and the down-tuned guitars here. I’m also a sucker for a breakdown with a big build-up. The dissonance and atmosphere they create really ties this one together nicely. The transition into seventh song ‘Hex’ is something I am also a massively fan of. Hex is silly heavy right from the get go. I would be going towards that pit purely for this song and this song alone. It’s metalcore with an undoubtedly djenty edge.
Track eight ‘Passenger’ has a huge chorus, combined with the leads and those low tuned riffs, is a song to listen out for when checking this album out. Penultimate track ‘Dehumanise’ is one of the shorter tracks in the album, coming in at 2:58. There are only so many ways I can say these songs are heavy and catchy! This is probably my favourite off the album so far. It’s very good.
‘All life is finite’ is the opposite, coming in at 5:07. The longest track on the album, is frenetic, all over the place in a good way and has a certain edge. It’s groovy and has huge chuggy breakdowns all throughout. If you liked the album up to this point you’re gonna love this one.
All in, check out Heart Of A Coward and check out this album!
