Album Review: Grunk – Tales From The Stupidity Vortex (Self Released)

Rugby NecroGrind chancers Grunk released their second album ‘Tales from The Stupidity Vortex’ on November 17th, 2023. An album that includes songs about jars of bodily fluids, fast cars, wrestling dinosaurs, drugs, falling in love in space and much more.

A cacophony of coarse metal, grim grind, feral punk, and emancipating noise. Grunk are very proud of the nonsense they deliver and have found an even more vigorous level on this new album. Where twelve tracks come at you thick and fast. Grunk have wicked intentions, and grins that are welcoming and sinister in equal measures.

Don’t take this album too seriously, they certainly aren’t, but do appreciate the dedication they have to making noise and that they are talented enough to make an impact. It’s a short and sonically rough experience, where only one track passes the two-minute mark, and that happens to be the ‘epic’ Stongtrembler 666. Although it’s more of an excuse for this band to create carnage over a longer and more sustained period of time. It is an emphatic blast that will get the listener sticky and sweaty without moving a muscle.

Around that track is a bloody bucket load of filth to savour too. From the eye-watering explosiveness of Radiator Spunk, to the grinding punk-infused heaviness of Sir Kennington Brown, to the lunacy of Amphetamine SulpHATE, and everything in between. It’s f**king nasty music and you’ll either love it or loathe it. Yet, it’s so damn morish. Maybe, it’s because it’s fun too. In a ballsy and bruising way.

Regardless of which side of the fence you do fall on, there’s no denying that Grunk create some form of feeling. Even if the over-riding is disgust.
