Back to wreck some necks, Gates to Hell return with an album that will put the silliest of smiles on the faces of those who love a bit of extreme, especially when it’s delivered in such forceful fashion as it is here. Death Comes to All is a ten-track album, but it’s over in around twenty minutes. That’s how tight Gates to Hell keep things, and it’s all the better for it. The unrelenting viciousness, crushing heaviness, and intense aggression is unsustainable, so it’s a ‘get in, f**k things up, get out’ kind of record.

How awesome is that!?

That it sounds so great, so fresh and modern, is even better. We have plenty of rough and raw death metal releases, so it’s nice to hear something with clarity. It means you can really take in the destructive force of it all, and it comes with so much destructive force.

From the start, it’s frantic ferocity that ticks all the ‘traditional’ death metal boxes, and then some. The riffs are savage, the thump of the drums are devastating, and the vocals rip chunks out of the mind, body, and soul. If you’re not head banging like a lunatic immediately, and all the way throughout, you’ve probably gone deaf.

It’s incredible that they manage to not only sustain this intensity across ten tracks, but they make it varied and interesting. Ok, it does help that there’s only one track that passes the three-minute mark and most come in around the two-minute mark, but the lack of bleed is incredible. Every single track feels fresh, hits with even more force, and attacks the senses with even more vitriol.

There’s nothing complex about this, it’s just a ten-track blast of brilliant brutality. Gates to Hell are one of the modern death metal greats, and the proof is in albums like this. I f**king love it.
