Album Review: Frostvore – Drowned By Blood (Testimony Records)
Tokyo based Old School Death Metallers Frostvore are entering the pit with their debut “Drowned By Blood”, out on August 28th 2020 via Testimony Records!
The band self-released a first EP entitled “Scavenger Of Human Dignity” in 2012 under the name Frostbite. After a hiatus between 2014 and 2019 they picked up the pieces, went though some line-up changes and started working on their first full-length shortly afterwards.
With both feet firmly planted in the yester-year of death metal, what we have here is the ultimate distillation of a modern band’s take on a classic old school sound. No frills, no messing around, no nonsense… just aggression personified.
Frostvore spit venom and play with blood pouring from wounds created by the intensity of their guitars and drums. There’s no better way to describe this album then to simply say, it’s an utter slice of destructive death metal power.
You know what you’re getting here and it doesn’t change from one to track to the next. However, the carnage Frostvore create makes it far more appealing over its album run time. Before you even know it, nine tracks have flown by in a haze of overwhelming drumming, polished riffs and scathing vocals.
