Album Review: Fister & CHRCH – Split (Crown and Throne Ltd)
Out on November 17th 2017, Fister & CHRCH will release a split album on limited edition vinyl via Crown and Throne Ltd & Battleground Records.
Two tracks but coming in at nearly 38 minutes long, it’s CHRCH that gets things going with Temples. A grim & darkly atmospheric listen that builds in tone until it reaches breaking point & unleashes pure fury on the listener. The blackened nastiness on show is enhanced by a bludgeoning doominess that leaves you feeling disorientated.
Before you’ve even really taken it in, 17 minutes have just drifted by. An exhausting listen, Fister make a point of renewing the energy with an instant ‘in your face’ assault delivered by ferocious vocal screams & roars. Terrifying in its aggression, it’s near impossible to envision just how the band can sustain this level of nastiness for the 21 minute runtime.
Delivering a constant stream of doom-based metal that only offers respite with a drop into an oppressive melodic tone that builds back towards the intense heaviness.
A unique listen, both bands offer similar but different takes on aggressive & haunting doom/blackened metal.
