Album Review: Feculent – The Grotesque Arena (Brilliant Emperor Records)
Featuring current members of Shackles, Snorlax, Resin Tomb, Descent, Siberian Hell Sounds and Idle Ruin, Feculent are perhaps the most rotten, brutal and the filthiest death-metal band to emerge from Brisbane, Australia. The band’s debut album “The Grotesque Arena” is set for release on March 19th, 2021 via Brilliant Emperor Records.
With only 6 tracks on offer, it’s a matter of coming out hard, fast and heavy for Feculent. Something they do with ease, spilling their rotten guts for all to see with a guttural, maggot-ridden style of brutal death metal.
The goal seems to have been to be as savage as humanly possible while conjuring up images of rotting mounds of human flesh. Are the piled-up bodies moving? No, that’s just the insects feasting upon the dead meat. Visceral? Vomit inducing? Putrid? That’s Feculent for you and it’s hard to not revel in this grotesque arena.
Don’t expect any surprises, it’s an album with the singular aim of leaving minds in a decomposed pile of mush. An easy accomplishment for this band and its varied membership. Bang your head until you’re part of the mass of the rotting and stinking meat.
