Album Review: Fear Incorporated – Apparitions (Self Released)
Fear Incorporated are a theatre macabre band formed in 2008 and write dark avant garde Gothic music.
Apparitions is Fear Incorporated’s 7th album themed on the supernatural and macabre and explore’s the misunderstanding and stigma for some that is attached to these subjects and phenomena. It was released on April 24th 2019.
Fear Incorporated are a unique listen and Apparitions is an album that will get as much love as it will hate. A synthy and electronica gothic oddity, it’s as exciting as it is head-scratching. Partially because it’s not quite clear at first what singular element hasn’t been messed around with by a computer with effects.
From the opening track Ouija Board’s catchy gothic beat that almost sounds like someone taking the piss. To the super avant-garde effects of Death Rehearsal that sounds deliciously evil and the mood-altering death-march of Blood Moon. This really is a unique sounding record. Not one for those who want something with a little more rock or metal to it though.
The highlights come in the form of the carnival-like Exorcism, horrifying macabre dance of Baron Samedi and the super dark Nightshade. Each one offers something a little different and sees Fear Incorporated nail the feeling of theatre.
That being said, this really is a love it or loathe it record. Certainly not for everyone.
