Album Review: Father Befouled – Crowned in Veneficum (Everlasting Spew Records)
US/Georgia death metal blasphemers Father Befouled return with a brand-new full length called ‘Crowned in Veneficum’. It will be released on March 25th, 2022 via Everlasting Spew Records.
Nine tracks of unrelenting and unrestrained filth, Father Befouled spit in the face of good taste and general decency to unleash a torrent of profane noise. A tome of extreme horror, aggression and cruelty, Crowned in Veneficum isn’t malicious but it does have a very nasty streak running through it.
A nasty streak portrayed by sacrilegious vocals, guitar riffs and bass lines that come straight from hell’s darkest corner and drums that sound like they’re being played on the skulls of Father Befouled’s victims.
It’s harsh and hard on the mind, there’s no pause for breath or a chance to let the waves of death metal heaviness settle. Even two instrumental offerings (His Throne Decayed and Euphoria of Accepted Suffering) deliver scornful and scarring ruthlessness.
There’s nothing lovable about this album. It’s designed to make you feel sick, to make you feel like the darkness is crushing you and the only thing you can do is curl into a ball and beg for forgiveness. Though there is none to be found as Father Befouled delight in the torture they dish out, smiling grimly at the pain and suffering they cause.
Indecent but down-right enjoyable if you like your death metal to sound born of hell.
