Album Review: Face the Day – Echoes of the Child’s Mind (Self Released)

Prague-based post-rockers Face the Day will release their third album ‘Echoes of the Child’s Mind’ on the 22nd of September 2022.

Dreamy, warm, emotional and varied, Face the Day take the listener on a journey into memories, where looking back at younger days in an attempt to seek reconcilement for a tragic event, is the story. Echoes of the Child’s Mind is a very deep album and with meaning that will have an effect on listeners in a variety of ways.

The sensitivity of the melody, the fragility of the vocals and the relaxed pacing makes opening track It’s Over immediately memorable. Even more so when Face the Day shift the tone and really express their post-rock style.

There’s quite a serious tone shift with Bright Dot in The Darkness too as Face the Day have a bit more pep in their step and the melody is quite a foot-tapper. It’s a great example of some of the catchier elements that the band has while never drifting too far away from their emotive post-rock core.

The sombre sound of Dawn eases the mind into a very relaxed state before Face the Day extend the sense of wonder and storytelling into higher echelons with the powerful melody of Entangled Souls. Another eccentric slice of indie-infused post rock that keeps the listener guessing as to what direction it might head off in.

Followed then by the immensely satisfying finale of There’s A Place in My Mind Where I Tend To Hide. Face to Day delivering a bit more urgency in short spates but giving the melody a darker and more ominous tone. It’s one of the more eccentric offerings on the album but also one more transformative.
