Album Review: Exhumation – Eleventh Formulae (Pulverised Records)
Grim kommandants Exhumation from Indonesia unveil a terror-storm of feral Death Metal obfuscation with “Eleventh Formulae”! A harvest that was six years in the making, and due to be released on February 28th 2020 via Pulverised Records.
With an inhuman level of intensity and the crushing weight of death metal behind them, Exhumation are clearly in a no-nonsense mood when it comes to Eleventh Formulae. 11 tracks of gut-wincing, ear-aching and crotch-kicking noise. From the moment Mors Gloria Est erupts with a cacophony of brutality, the guitars squealing like a stuck-pig, to the moment Formulae III: Eleventh Vessel evil drifts over like a thick and choking mist across a bog.
Foreboding and gloomy, squalid and repugnant, it’s a noxious noise that emanates from a collection of extreme metal tracks. There’s a toughness to Exhumation mixed with a heavy sprinkling of delicious evilness that makes them seem all the more unreal.
At their core though, for all their malicious intents, this is an extreme metal album. A wall of noise, there are very few moments of relief. The most significant being Formulae II: Ironheart Rapture where an eerie piano melody plays out for almost 4 minutes.
Elsewhere though; it’s a blast of thick viscous guitars, heavy percussion and vocals hot enough to melt the fat from bones.
