Home in Another Life is similar to the musings of someone beginning to grow up and look at aspects of their life from a past, present, and future perspective. In that regard, it’s got an emo twist, but still undoubtably sits within the indie rock genre. Infectious and likable, but with plenty of notable moodiness that, in the case of opener, I’m Scared I’ll End Up All Alone, gives it a grungier feel.

Things get really pleasing though with Not Just Yet as it’s a track with plenty of heartfelt meaning behind it, something that is expressed impressively. Then there is the melodic Sink, bassy infectiousness of Spots, and foot-tapping moody dramatics of I Still Feel Bad About Masturbation. The laidback approach giving Enumclaw a more ‘retro’ feel, even while everything has a freshness to it. Musical methods that help make Home in Another Life memorable.

It’s then quite interesting to find some experimental aspects to the instrumentals with Haven’t Seen the Family in A While, I’m Sorry. A track that is exceptionally listenable because it is a little weird and has some strong vocals. Although the uptick in the energy that Grocery Store has is nothing to complain about either. Enumclaw dropping a lively one at just the right time.

The highlight of this album though? It could very well be Change, a thoughtful and heartfelt sounding indie rock tune. Featuring an impressive vocal performance, a banging chorus, and an overall lovable moody vibe. It’s Enumclaw at their strongest, but, even though this is such a high point, the following duo of Fall Came Too Soon and Now I Wanna Throw Up, and This Light of Mine are very catchy too, in different ways.

Home in Another Life is, overall, a beautiful example of openness and being true to yourself. Enumclaw haven’t sought to write ‘hits’, but rather write music that fits them and what they are feeling. The final exclamation point on this fact coming from the overtly dramatic melody of I Want Somethings for Myself.
