Album Review: Entombed A.D. – Bowels of Earth (Century Media Records)

Born out of the ashes of Entombed in 2014, Entombed A.D. return with their third album under this current monitor entitled ‘Bowels of Earth’.

Due to be released on the 30th August 2019 via Century Media Records. In the words of vocalist LG Petrov it is:

Death metal – simple and straightforward.

No arguments here. Bowels of Earth offers few surprises but let’s be honest, whose asking for any? Ten tracks of meaty, raging and earthy death metal effort as only a band like Entombed A.D. could produce. However, this is also a tighter and more focused sounding album, the band clearly spending time perfecting each track.

From the no-nonsense opener Torment Remains to the beast that is Hell is My Home with its super-chuggy latter half to the sludge that drips through Bourbon Nightmare, the first half of the album is very strong.

If you’re not on board the death metal train by time the thumping intensity of Fit for A King kicks in then chances are you might already be dead. Bang your head, lose your mind, let the waves of extreme wash over you as Worlds Apart sees Entombed A.D. fly into an uncontrollable rage but one with a strong structure of cracking riffs and throaty roars.

Through the Eyes of the Gods and I’ll Never Get Out of This World Alive are both equally as strong and rage-fuelled. Entombed A.D. not looking to change the world of metal but instead set it ablaze.

Finally a strong death metal release ends with To Eternal Night, the longest track of the album but also the closest Entombed A.D, get to really expanding their sound. It’s a little bit nasty, a little but grimy but a whole lot of heavy.

Simple and straightforward but very, very enjoyable.
