Album Review: Elder Devil – Everything Worth Loving (Prosthetic Records)
Hurtling out of California’s Central Valley with arms swinging and teeth bared, Elder Devil will be releasing their upcoming sophomore album, Everything Worth Loving, on June 16th via Prosthetic Records.
On face value, Everything Worth Loving can be simply summed up as grind/hardcore bedlam and noise. A tidal wave of raw ferocity that is beautifully uncompromising, even when Elder Devil blend genres occasionally. However, dig a little deeper and you’ll find an album that is way more personal than expected. An album that deals with personal loss, grief, and the sense of displacement through the lyrical content.
Talk about adding weight to the sound of chaotic noise and making it so much more impactful. Although, considering the overall commotion that Elder Devil produce here, impact is the least of a listener’s worries.
Everything Worth Loving is 13 tracks long and from the very start, Endless Need, it’s grinding mayhem with a side-order of metallic hardcore to set your teeth on edge. The serrated edge of the band is always at the forefront as they smash and crash through the mental facilities with all the care of a bull trapped in an ornamental shop. From the manic Awash in Light to the relatable rendering of New Grief, to the delightful delinquency of What Do You See?, and the brash anthemic sound of What Do You Hear? Elder Devil leave you feeling extremely spent.
Enjoy the raw ferocity, but stay for the honest depth.
