Album Review: Dressed to Kill – Midnight Impulsion (AreaDeath Production)
Dressed to Kill are a heavy/speed metal band from China. Inspired by the 80s horror/cult movie and retro culture, they released their debut full-length album ‘Midnight Impulsion’ on November 23rd 2019.
The sci-fi inspired synth of the intro will tell you a lot about just what Dressed to Kill have in store for us here. It’s classic metal, the head-banging NWOBHM-inspired kind of stuff that excites the senses.
Don’t let the old-school vibe and sound put you off, Dressed to Kill are bringing their own brand of metal to the attention of the world. Racing and raging with Midnight Comes Around before Rose of Kowloon drops some foot-tapping rhythm and a head-banger of a guitar solo.
A strong start, the circus comes to visit in a horrifying way with Welcome to My Carnival. A horror-infused slice of rocking and rolling metal. The high pitched wails of the vocals complimented by gang shouts and ballsy riffing on Breakin’ Through the Sky. Before a classy and super-old school metal melody turns Rock On the Way of Dream into something to be remembered. Especially the guitar solo that is dropped near the end.
In case you’ve not fully realised it yet, Midnight Impulsion is a blast. A heavy metal blast often at its strongest when it moves at a gallop. Such as found on the album highlight, A Blade in the Night. Although the twisted riffs of Murder City isn’t far behind and the energy exuded by the vocals there is grin-inducing.
Finally, it’s Queen of the Light which seems a bit more subdued until it hits the chorus and Speed Metal Mania, with a title that should tell you all you need to know. Still, it’s a banger that will really get the hair flying furiously.
An apt way to describe the album as a whole. A fast and furious blur of hair as heads are well and truly banging.
