Album Review: Dreamshift – Seconds (STF Records)
Out on October 6th 2017 via STF Records, Seconds is the debut album of atmospheric black metal/post-metal solo project, Dreamshift.
An album that lyrically, has themes about the sense of life & social abuses.
Delivering on melody & a heavy post-metal sound, fans of the likes of Deafheaven & Ghost Bath will feel quite comfortable with what Dreamshift offers. You can’t shake off the comparisons as they are in your face instantly with Flowers, a track that mixes soft & sweet guitar plucking with blasts of destructive black metal. It’s a strong start to an album that goes from strength to strength as it progresses.
Growing Up, Remember & Circles all have wailing guitars intersected by horrific screams of fury built around impactful & memorable melody. Nothing can quite prepare you for the high quality blend on show here. It’s incredibly impressive that Seconds is all the work of one man, especially when you hear tracks like the bleak & haunting Dark Blue.
The heavy blasts of Bright Eyes & the final melodic/post-metal wonder that is Just Like Rain ensure this is an album that will be played months down the line.
