Album Review: Drawn and Quartered – Congregation Pestilence (Krucyator Productions)

Drawn And Quartered resurges to transmit its newest outbreak of evil, Congregation Pestilence, due out July 2nd, 2021 on vinyl, CD, and digital formats via Krucyator Productions.

Drawn and Quartered arrived on the scene nearly three decades ago in 1992 under the name Plague Bearer. A year later, the dark death metal group changed their name to Drawn and Quartered and since then have been plying their trade deep in the underground caverns of extreme metal.

Nothing too surprising here, Drawn and Quartered play a blistering and savage style of death metal and batter the senses across 9 tracks on Congregation Pestilence. The three-piece are making so much noise as they draw deeply from the well of extreme to offer up a poisonous mouthful of heaviness.

It is pure and unending chaos encapsulated by a darkness that runs throughout the album like a bulbous and juicy vein. Squeeze hard and the blood comes squirting out. It’s the kind of imagery this album creates.

Now, there is the strong possibility that a constant diet of sickening speed, blackened fury and destructive heaviness might get a bit cloying. There are times during the album where that feeling does begin to sink in but credit to Drawn and Quartered, they work hard at keeping things interesting.

There are a swathe of guitar riffs, some killer soloing, a constantly shifting but momentously intense drum/bass pattern and of course, the vocals are pulled straight from hell. Combined, it’s a devastating assault of extreme metal that certainly isn’t going to set the world alight but will seriously satisfy those with a bit of a bloodthirst.
