Album Review: Detherous – Hacked to Death (Redefining Darkness Records)
Detherous are 4 death thrash maniacs from Calgary Alberta, Canada. On their debut album, Hacked to Death, Detherous have created an absolutely blistering album spanning 8 intense songs made up of old school Metal mayhem!
Hacked to Death will be released on August 16th 2019 via Redefining Darkness Records.
Walking the line of thrash and death metal nicely, Hacked to Death is a chunky beast that moves at an impossible pace and has savage intentions for all who get in its way. Be careful head-banging to Smouldering Ashes rhythm, you’ll break you neck. That is how intense it is. Bloody good though, especially the slowdown section that gets really low and heavy before increasing in pace leading to one last explosion of noise.
Strengthening their position, Detherous don’t take their foot of the gas. Their goal is non-stop heaviness and it’s up to the Practitioners of Pain to ensure we get it.
Which of course it delivers. As does the following Ridden, the title track and From Hell They Rise. Of the three it is Ridden that really stands out with a fantastic opening guitar solo but each one provides plentiful thrashing riffs and death groove to lose your mind too.
It’s a banger of an album and kept short and sweet with just 8 tracks, the longest just passing the five minute mark. That happens to be Brain Death, the final track and a thrilling finish for a damn enjoyable album.
If you’ve not exhausted yourself before, this will do the job. Worth every second though.
