Album Review: Deitus – Irreversible (Candlelight Records)
Black metallers Deitus return from the abyss after more than 4 years of silence, with their third studio album, Irreversible, on July 14th via Candlelight Records.
When you’ve been silent for such a long period of time, it’s easy for the music world to forget about you completely. It’s always moving forward, even when it seems like it is going backwards. So, when you finally break that silence, you need it to be loud. You need to get the attention of everyone. You need to remind people of your inimitable power.
This is the goal of Deitus and the impact this new record has will be felt far and wide.
Kicking off with Incursion, an aggressive and tension heavy instrumental track, before truly unleashing black metal horror with the aptly titled, Straight for Your Throat. Deitus immediately knocking any doubts about what they can do out of the head. Yet, this is no straight-forward blast of bad-mannered noise with a fiery tone. There are deep depths here and the more you explore, the more pleasing horror is unveiled.
For example, how many black metal albums have guitar solos? Let alone more than one in the same track?
As the listener wanders lost and confused in the darkness Deitus creates, vivid imagery assaults the mind through the sounds of pandemonium. A Scar for Serenity, the title track, and Voyeur showcasing an inspired and rejuvenated band. Sharp riffing, thumping rhythms that get the head banging, diabolical vocals, and so much more. It’s a consistent delight.
So much so, that it seems too short at six tracks long. Even if each of those tracks were lengthy and detailed affairs. This impressive return capped off with the momentous beast of a track that is As Long as They Fear.
Welcome back, Deitus. Let’s not leave it so long next time, eh!?
