Album Review: Dead Lakes – daydreamer (SharpTone Records)
Alternative rock band Dead Lakes will release their debut full-length album ‘daydreamer’ on March 31st, 2022 via SharpTone Records.
Enter a surreal and dreamy world with Dead Lakes. They are behind the wheel and reving the engine, ready to go, as they introduce a synthy soundscape on the title track intro. Before speeding off down the bright, brash, and brilliant road to the sound of strange juice. A powerful showcase of Dead Lakes appealing alternative sound. Catchy and heartfelt in equal measures, the chorus is particularly delightful.
The synth touches of tongue planet continue to make this feel like a fever dream tinged with a cinematic edge. The sense of being on a wacked-out road trip with Dead Lakes is ever prominent as the transition into the crowd-pleasing wrong way is very clever. Followed then by a blend of alt-rock, hip-hop, and atmosphere with onyx drive. Before the halfway point is reached with anthemic aplomb in the form of stamina.
If there’s one takeaway from daydreamer overall at this point, it’s the fact that Dead Lakes have an ear for what is popular. Their music is extremely playable and extremely listenable. People from all walks of life with all kinds of tastes will enjoy this and that’s only enhanced by the latter half. Which features moments like eccentric electronica on hold back, the passionate melody of ad nauseam, the anthemic drown it out, and the trippy quicksand.
Modern, fresh, and interesting, a lot of the time. The finale of deceiver is unashamedly melodic, intensely passionate, and extremely memorable. It is undeniable that this album is going to turn Dead Lakes into superstars.
