Album Review: Dark Redeemer – Into the Deep Black (Blasphemous Records)
Born out of the ashes of the Bergamo (Italy)-based death metal band Aleph, Dark Redeemer will make its debut on September 24th, 2021 with the full length ‘Into the Deep Black’. The album will be distributed by Sleaszy Music (USA), Code 7 (Europe), Wormhole Death Japan, Fans and Bands (Mexico), Egea Music (Italy) and digitally on all digital music stores.
While as death metal as they come a lot of the time, Dark Redeemer’s Into the Deep Black wakes listeners out of their heavy stupor with some interesting ideas. Namely the infusion of grind, gothic effects and the blackened approach to everything. The opener of TMC features this wild combination with dominating vocals that are almost spoken word like in delivery.
A chaotic start is given a darker and more evil sound with a gothic infusion on Swallow the Cross. The religious tones prevalent but Dark Redeemer still focused on buzzing riffs, bone-crunching percussion and those over-powering vocals.
Killing Ritual than combines nasty verses with a bit of grandeur in its chorus before descending into doomier, guitar soloing territory at the very end. This is where Dark Redeemer truly start to stand out from the pack. Christians is more focused on delivering twisted ruthlessness and proves to be the most demanding and most savage sounding track so far. Before the title track takes us down into darkness and heady, choking bleak atmosphere.
After an initially slow start, there’s no denying that Dark Redeemer’s darkness covered album has really taken hold. The bite of The Zombiemarch is a slow-moving infection that transforms into a mind-numbing chaos. Sedibus Indagandis et Causis Morborum’s breaks the noise up with calming but heavy gothic and sinister vibes before Dark Redeemer burst forth with the desolate vehemence of Incubation. Ending their ritual with the methodical, evil and soul-consuming Burn under the Blackened Sky (Valley of Death).
