Album Review: Concrete Winds – Nerve Butcherer (Sepulchral Voice Records)
On they slay! After “Primitive Force” from 2019, Concrete Winds now deliver their 2nd full-length album fittingly entitled “Nerve Butcherer”. Out on November 26th, 2021 via Sepulchral Voice Records.
Is this the vilest record releasing this year? Is this the sickest and most twisted 26 and a bit minutes a person can subject themselves to throughout 2021? These are the thoughts that will be running through your head once you hit play on Nerve Butcherer and unleash Concrete Winds.
Unbelievably chaotic, extraordinarily heavy… you know when a friend or family member queries why you like metal with the words “but it’s just noise”? This is the kind of album they’re talking about. An album of blistering speed, nonsensical structure, and savage intentions.
Appealing? That’s going to depend on what you’re feeling. Angry with the world and wanting to let some aggression out? It’s the perfect accompaniment to let off some steam. Long enough to leave you feeling exhausted but short enough to not overstay its welcome. Bedlam this intense is a ‘get in and get out’ listen and Concrete Winds do exactly that.
The force they exude is what makes this album so pleasing though. For all the slamming and banging they do, it’s not unenjoyable to listen too. Especially once the initial shock value has worn off and sense can be made of what you’re hearing.
Simply put, there have been some devastating and destructive records this year, but Nerve Butcherer might very well be the one that leaves the sorest mark. If you want to know what uninhibited fury sounds like, let Concrete Winds get on your nerves.
