Album Review: Coffin Torture – Dismal Planet (Sludgelord Records)

Coffin Torture play sludge, deep booming & feedback covered sludge with elements of doom thrown in. Their new album, Dismal Planet will be released on February 16th 2018 via Sludgelord Records.

The band commented “We’re excited to have The Sludgelord unleash our first full-length album. Dismal Planet is coming soon. Prepare for filthy riff destruction! Cheers to Sludgelord Records!”

Dismal Planet is an ear-aching record. A record that is fuzzy sludge riffs from the first minute to the very last. That’s 42 minutes of nastiness that crawls into your brain through your ears like a parasite. It’s a simply no-nonsense approach delivered by a two-piece band. You will be genuinely surprised that just two people can bring such heaviness.

One of the major takeaways from the likes of Bull of Minos, Izhar and Bolted Down Boiled to Grease is that it’s all about the intensifying buzzing of the guitars. These dominate & give off the impression of thousands of files hovering over a rotting corpse.

Booming drum beats & the distant, echoey vocals complete what is an album that provides long-term memories. An album that has some surprises up its sleeve as Gustave’s momentary injections of pace, the impossibility of the heaviness that D.H.F brings and the hypnotic rhythm of Trench Hog show.

A mighty fine effort.
