Album Review: Coffin Torture – Blennoid (Sludgelord Records)

Savage duo Coffin Torture are gearing up to unleash six tracks of 100% death sludge in their new album ‘Blennoid’ releasing via Sludgelord Records. Covering themes of supernatural events, brain eating worms, carnivorous rivers of slime will be set free to bring havoc on October 7th, 2022.

The band comments:

We really wanted the music to be as grotesque sounding as the events described in the lyrics. I think we’ve accomplished that this time around. It’s brutal!

Strong words from the band, but words that ring true once you’ve put yourself through the suffering that is Blennoid. Suffering caused by a sickening blend of death and sludge metal. Where tectonic plates of heaviness smash into each other creating utter carnage. The two-piece that is Coffin Torture riding the waves of chaos.

It’s imagery like that which flits through the mind upon listening to Blennoid. So unrelenting is the brutality but so measured is the approach. More rhythmic, thanks to the peaks and valleys created by the sludgy sound, but still rooted in the nasty side of death. Although, the unique elements that Coffin Torture throw out certainly shouldn’t be ignored. Elements that give the album a fresher feel.

The more time spent with Blennoid, the more it becomes clear that the duo have a lot of imagination and the talent to back it up. Whether it’s horror-infused sci-fi sounds, such as those that appear on Ükhsen Uul, the primitive intro to Budo or the wacked out terror that comes from Yateveo. Coffin Torture have a bit more going on than just brutish heaviness.

Yet, there’s simply no denying just how good the out and out filth is. The likes of Confessor and Crawling Spleen deliver guttural sludge, the stuff all fans of heavy music will want to bathe in. We’re all like pigs in shit when it comes to Coffin Torture and Blennoid. Take a bow, they’ve smashed it with this release.
