Album Review: The Clearing Path – Watershed Between Firmament And The Realm Of Hyperborea (I, Voidhanger Records)
Gabriele Gramaglia, the Italian artist behind Summit is back with his oldest project, The Clearing Path & a new album, Watershed Between Firmament And The Realm of Hyperborea. Out on December 8th 2017 via I, Voidhanger Records.
A merciless listen, Watershed Between Firmament And The Realm of Hyperborea is four tracks of ruthless extreme metal. One that links black metal with ambience wrapped up in an eclectic sound. The grinding dissonant heaviness of Ankhtkheperura in Thee against the thoughtfulness of the melody on The Pillars of Creation establish the depth on show here.
The distracting & unbridled malice of Stargazer Monolith is a highlight of the record providing dark surrounding metal that will leave you feeling a little uneasy.
The final track on the album is not only the longest but also the most expansive sounding. For the first 5 minutes it impresses with some hard rock/metal progressiveness before plunging into a clean melody. It then builds back into a thundering beat that finishes things off substantially.
A striking release that stays with you long afterwards.
