Album Review: Cancer – Into the Heartless Silence (Throats Productions)
Nearly two years following the release of their auspicious debut EP ‘Terminal’, Australian black metal newcomers Cancer are now ready to unleash their first full-length album “Into the Heartless Silence”, due out on the 28th July 2018 via Throats Productions.
On the opening track Ad Nauseam’s showing, you’d expect Cancer’s new album Terminal to be one filled with dark, heavy and gothic black metal tones. Which it is but once Modus Operandi gets going you’ll realise that this as much about post-black as it is about the traditional style. It’s this track that wakes you up from the malaise as the melody grabs hold of you and shakes hard.
An exceptionally good song that is followed by the equally thrilling The Sleepless Waltz. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Ghost Bath, the tortured vocal howls and roars will chill you to the bone but the melodic rhythm will warm your heart.
It’s an album that just keeps on giving. Apherisis, Shell Over Bone, Ouroboros and Abacination take us into haunted landscapes filled with unimaginable horrors that infect the mind, body and soul. It’s an incredible effort from a band with an immeasurable level of talent in their ranks.
Need any more proof? Wehe Mir is what can only be described as a black metal epic. An unbelievable track that deals in darkness while playing up to your emotions. The perfect end to an stunning album.
