Album Review: Caboose – Left for Dust (Majestic Mountain Records)

Sweden’s newest riff lords, Caboose, will release their new album, ‘Left for Dust’ on March 21st, 2025, via Majestic Mountain Records.

Worship the riff, sink into the fuzz, and get ready to groove to the sound of high energy stoner rock. It’s Caboose, and they have something very noisy to share with you.

The album kicks off in style, groovy bloody style, with High On You and while it does set a high bar as far as salacious body shakers go, it’s just one of many that get jammed in the brain matter. Proof? The following Shiner and its riffs, which, alongside a hefty drum section and smooth, commanding vocals, really gets under the skin. The ending is freaky as hell too.

The word that does truly sum up this album is infectious, and it’s all thanks to a band with fuzz running through their veins. However, like the best stoner rock bands, it doesn’t completely define their sound. There is variety on this album, and plenty of experimental efforts like For So Long, with its dramatic melodic opening and vocals in a more prominent place, and the punky feel of Cement Surfer.

Still, the best stuff on this album comes when Caboose just lean back and hit us with vigorous groove, head banging riffs, and choruses that can be sung/shouted along to. Crimzon Haze is one of the best tracks on the album for showcasing all of this, and a bit more.

The haziness of desert rock hangs over the album, of course, and Sophies Sushi Wok adds a mellow groove to things. Fuzzed Out Mind has a lovable trippiness to its guitars, but will also make your teeth ache, and Feedback City’s laidback tempo makes the body sway in time with the rhythm. Before Spacerod wraps up this tight and concise listen with one last reason to let loose and groove to mightily infectious stoner rock music.
