Album Review: Burial Remains – Spawn of Chaos (Raw Skull Recordz)
The Dutch death metal scene is well known for producing some killer albums over the last 30+ years and Burial Remains look to add ‘Spawn of Chaos’ to that list.
After a very promising debut album, the old school death metal aggressive unit will release the new album on September 5th 2020 via Raw Skull Recordz.
Back with another beastly effort, Burial Remains build on their debut with a brand new 9-track (one of which is a cover) slab of aggression. Rooted in the rough and raw sound of the death metal past, there are no frills here.
Filled to the brim with riffs sharp enough to leave most in a bloody mess, drums that feel like the weight of the world is pushing down on the brain matter and vocals ripped straight from the mouth of hell. Burial Remains simply deliver on exactly what they promise and then some.
Although some of the better moments are when the band take their foot off the gas and let the darkness flow from within. Such as on the excellent At Dawn Came the Shadows or the near doominess of Slaves to the Cult.
Capped off with an intense and memorable cover of Slaughter’s Tortured Souls, Spawn of Chaos is a frantic and memorable old-school offering.
