Album Review: Brutta – Brutta (Self Released)
Brutta is a solid, heavy-hitting band straight out of São Paulo, Brazil, and the UK. A blackened death metal band, their debut self-titled album is due out June 17th, 2022.
The band had this to say:
The album is a definitive punch in your face… or maybe we could say a hammer in your forehead! A mixture of open evil chords with blast beats finding a defined yet tormenting growling vocal. The song themes are very precise and the lyrics bring a subjective aspect of humans’ mental conflicts from a darker angle. It’s right there, aggression, darkness, heaviness, a critical sound mass with a huge personality, not to mention its fine production.
Aiming to make a loud thump with this debut, Brutta bring dark ruthlessness and snarling intensity to the forefront here. Eight tracks of no-nonsense aggression, featuring an array of musical tools to maim, it’s not quite surgical precision and more akin to blunt force trauma, but maim Brutta does.
Wielding their instruments like weapons and dishing out a consistently heavy sound, Brutta are an exciting revelation in extreme music. Sure, the carcass of blackened death metal is stinking in the sun, yet here is a band looking to resurrect it and make it move in a macabre, vomit-inducing way. The puppetry is familiar, but the stomach-churning movements are quite a sight to behold.
Credit to Brutta for making this 33-odd minute release feel as fresh as humanely possible. Even if it never rises above anything but pure and straight-forward heavy noise. Which, of course, there’s nothing wrong with if the noise thrills and this stuff thrills. Nothing game-changing or liable to turn a hater into a lover, but sure to put smiles on the faces of those who enjoy a bit of brutality.
