Album Review: BornBroken – The Years of Harsh Truths And Little Lies… (Self Released)
BornBroken return on May 18th 2018 with a 40 minute freight-train called The Years of Harsh Truths and Little Lies… The new album features a refreshed line up that includes vocalist Pepe Peloquin (Endast), drummer Samuel Santiago (Gorod, First Fragment) along with bassist Red Voizard to join founding members and guitarists Mike Decker and Simon Sivard.
Decker explains:
“We felt the need to go 7 string and tune to (Drop G) for this latest batch of songs, it seemed fitting for the way the band was leaning towards. We keep the same writing style, writing what we want, when we want. First writing for ourselves and then molding into more standard song frame, so people can get the hook of the song, and make it a memorable sound to them.”
A meaty metal sound that is all about the heavy while being propped up by anger, BornBroken are a beast and go straight for the jugular with Empty Souls, the title track and Torn. A hefty amount of groove is reminiscent of the likes of Devildriver and Lamb of God, especially with the roaring vocals style. There’s also a bit of hardcore influence running through the album too really noticeable on Fight, a track that sees Slaves On Dope’s Jason Rockman provide guest vocals.
The tempo is constantly high, the aggression consistent and the riff-based assault unwilling to give you a moment to breathe. The amount of metal goodness within the likes of No Stranger to Failure, Father Death and Listen will see you not even thinking about coming up for air.
Give yourself to BornBroken.
