Album Review: Bloodphemy – Dawn of Malevolence (Non Serviam Records)
Bloodphemy, the death metal heathens, will release their fifth full length album ‘Dawn of Malevolence’ on November 17th, 2023, via Non Serviam Records.
Purveyors of all things grim and guttural, Bloodphemy are back and sounding nastier than ever. This new album, Dawn of Malevolence, is every bit the monstrosity a fan of extreme music could hope it to be. From the moments it starts, Bloodphemy are sounding both furious and sickened with the world and all its bullshit. This is their response, and there’s no forgiveness to be found, it’s an immediate expulsion of dark, raw, and relentless death metal.
Get used to that, but also get used to the perfect marrying of instruments and vocals. Where every riff leaves deep and bloody cuts, every thrum of the bass rattles the soul, every drumbeat sounds like it can break bones, and the vocals are coming from chords ripped apart by glass and nails.
Bloodphemy’s persistent approach to heaviness and intensity doesn’t overshadow the fact either that there is groove to a lot of this music. Efforts like Therapeutic Torturing, Sanity Obfuscation, the title track, and From Suffering to Violence are killer groove-infused head-bangers. Hell, they’re catchy in an extremely fucked up way.
Yet, it’s an album that never stops going hard and that is what makes this such a joy to listen to. It’s been a bloody good year for death metal as a whole, but don’t be finishing up those ‘end of year lists’ just yet. Bloodphemy would like a word and it comes with a serious amount of attention-grabbing rage.
