Album Review: Blood of the Wolf – II: Campaign of Extermination (Self Released)

Blackened death juggernaut Blood of the Wolf has returned to embark upon a Campaign of Extermination. An eight-track onslaught, it is a continuation of the band’s critically-acclaimed 2015 debut, I: The Law of Retaliation. II: Campaign of Extermination will be unleashed April 7th 2018.

Extermination 2

With no care for your ear drums, Blood of the Wolf come at you with force as Thunder the Drums of War lives up to its name. A crushing level of drumming, guitar riffs that assault every sense of the body and vocals that would make a demon weep.

It’s a damn good start.

Campaign of Extermination, Beneditio Ultionis and Erupting Volcanic Wrath keep the death metal sound rolling on nicely. Not just about hammering as hard as possible (although Blood of the Wolf do a stand-up job of that), we get some nice variety in the riffs & hooks here. Blood of the Wolf are a talented bunch as they show just how a bit of structure in the rhythm can make all the difference!

The more II: Campaign of Extermination gets engrained in your brain the more it impresses. The double of The Sword is my Light and Salvation and Scorched Earth Ceremony are two of the best death metal tracks you’ll hear all year. The latter in particular has thrillingly sharp guitar hooks.

With absolutely no letup, Blood of the Wolf close out their incredible effort with just a touch of unexpected melody (one with darkness running through it) and the finest riffing of the entire album.

Utterly mind-blowing.
