Album Review: Black Swamp Water – Awakening (Mighty Music)
Danish hard rock/heavy metal band, Black Swamp Water will release their third album, Awakening in digital, LP, and CD formats by Mighty Music on the 20th August 2021.
With a name like Black Swamp Water, you could be forgiven for thinking you’re going to hear something with sludgy and doomy connotations. While, the Danes do draw influences from the likes of Black Sabbath and Corrosion of Conformity, their music sits somewhere in between old-school hard rock and heavy metal.
Which does mean we get something with swagger and groove but also with plenty of moments where head-banging is all that is required.
To call it a ‘fun and wild ride’ from beginning to end is to understate just how quickly the nine tracks of this banger flies by. From the moment the killer riffing, meaty drums and smooth vocals of Roll Over kicks in. To the frantic blast of metal energy that comes from Endless War and the upbeat groover that is Better Days. To the classy cover of Black Sabbath’s Children of the Grave and the thumping head-banger that is Hammer You Down.
A blast from beginning to end.
