Album Review: Black Anemone – Chasing the Sun (Self Released)

Swedish rock band, Black Anemone are a band that attributes everything they are into the love of playing music, the love of playing live. They try to embody the constant grinding that is the music business of today.

Drawing from a similar well as the likes of Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys And The Rumjacks. They released their new album, Chasing the Sun on May 1st 2020.

With a ton energy, Black Anemone nail that ‘Celtic’ folksy bounce that makes the comparisons to the likes of The Dropkick Murphys all the clearer. Music to drink too in the corner of a warm and inviting pub. The opening duo of Straight Back to Hell and Drinking on A Sunday showcasing the liveliness of the band perfectly.

Of course, the album is also peppered with reflective and thought-provoking moments too. Voices from Bones, Letter to Lorelei and The Willow Creek digging deep into the melodies and causing the odd tear or two to roll down a weathered cheek.

The ultimate selling point of the album though will be the faster paced rock and roll efforts though. Tracks to help pick you up and distract you when you’re feeling a bit down. Although there’s little here that will convert non-fans, it’s hard not to have a wry smile on the face throughout.
