Album Review: Benediction – Scriptures (Nuclear Blast)

Benediction return to the fold with a crushing new album and an equally impressive line-up. Reunited with Dave Ingram, vocalist on some of Benediction’s classic early releases such as ‘The Grand Leveller’, ‘Grind Bastard’ and the ground-breaking opus that is ‘Transcend the Rubicon’.

Now, 31 years after their inception, Benediction bring forth Scriptures for a waiting and willing world. Out on October 16th 2020 via Nuclear Blast.

With as much fire in their bellies as the day they were born, Benediction arrive with aplomb and deliver a modern death metal heavyweight to please all fans of aggression and noise. 12 tracks and around 47 minutes of Benediction refreshed. Not new… not a restart so to speak… a continuation of what fans know and love but with a fresh edge that comes with a change in line-up.

There’s nothing for Benediction to prove but god-damn, do they go out of their way to make sure Scriptures isn’t a re-thread of their early years or a greatest hits. Instead, the fiery unit come out swinging and not caring one iota about who’s in the way. This is an album to incite the masses as only thumping death metal can do.

Benediction’s Scriptures is the ultimate rabble rouser and fans of furious but rhythmic head-bangers will have a blast. A united and hive mind of metallers. As the heavyweights put it in the final moments of the album… we are legion.
