Album Review: Arx Atrata – The Path Untravelled (Self Released)

Wherever you may be, the music of Arx Atrata can open a window onto that moment of hope and clarity. The atmospheric black metal sounds of new album The Path Untravelled bring those vast, unspoilt vistas to your mind, those cold, cleansing winds to your heart.

With The Path Untravelled, Ben Sizer, the man behind the Arx Atrata name, has unveiled even more of the qualities that have delighted fans and reviewers so far on his journey. He has dug deeper, reached further and dreamed in even more vibrant colours to create something truly special.

The Path Untravelled will be released on October 11th 2019.

Atmospheric black metal has the power to not just leave you feeling icy cold but to leave you feeling emotionally drained. Good atmospheric black metal darkens the world around, casting shadows where there shouldn’t be any and surrounding you with the innate feeling of loneliness. Good atmospheric black metal can make you feel the pain and suffering of the earth. Dripping with emotional melodies while also being crushingly brutal at times too.

The best of atmospheric black metal can take all of this and still leave the mind, body and soul feeling hopeful and inspired though.

Not many bands can manage this or at least consistently across an entire album. Arx Atrata can though. Everything good, everything described above…is infused into The Path Untravelled to leave most who hear it wide-eyed and wide-mouthed.

Seven huge, wandering, darkness covered yet gorgeous epics of atmospheric black metal. There is no faulting a single moment of this album, admire it in all its freezing cold glory.
