Album Review: Apostle of Solitude – Until the Darkness Goes (Cruz Del Sur Music)

For 17 years, Indianapolis, Indiana’s Apostle of Solitude has been exploring the darkest caverns of the fallible species known as humankind. On their sixth studio album, “Until the Darkness Goes”, they channel loss and isolation, a cathartic offering of pure doom. It will be released on November 12th, 2021 via Cruz Del Sur Music.

A dirty and intrusive form of doom, Apostle of Solitude come crawling from the depths with slow, but devious intent. This 6-track album has a demonic force behind it but like beautiful torture, it takes its time. As doom is known to do.

If syrup covered tempos, lethargic riffing, mind-numbing heaviness and hypnotic clean vocals sounds like the sort of thing you’d enjoy then Apostle of Solitude have what you need.

To call Until the Darkness Goes an uncomfortable listen is to play down the haunting and harsh doomy flavour that exists in every inch of the album. Every second and every note brings with it weight. Weight bearing down on the mind, body and soul. Pushing until you feel as though you can’t take any more and then pushing just that little bit more.

The thing though, that makes this such a special album, is that the heaviness and weight is warped by the cleanliness of the vocals. Clear and morose, with an imposing touch on certain parts. It’s a very effective and a classic pairing.

Aside from the short and melodic Beautifully Dark, each track is a mammoth undertaking as you would expect. However, nothing drags or feels forced. It’s as natural as the day turning to night, the gloom of darkness seeping in slowly. A strong analogy of Apostle of Solitude’s Until the Darkness Goes.
