Album Review: Accept – Humanoid (Napalm Records)
Founded in 1976, Accept, the long-standing legendary German titans of heavy metal, are back with a new studio album, entitled ‘Humanoid’, to be released on the 26th of April, 2024 via Napalm Records.
Legends for a reason, Accept are back and like everyone expects, they have brought reasons to head-bang with them. Humanoid is the Accept of old, to some degree, but it’s so far from a rethread of their greatest hits. It’s an album packed with riffs, big beats, heavy rhythms, epic vocal hooks, and so much more. Something evident from the start with Diving into Sin and given even impact with the title track. All the parts of Accept are on form, but the guitars? The lead is screaming and getting big solos is never something to complain about.
Talk about continuing to set the metal world alight by being as relevant as ever. Accept are filled with vitality and vibrancy as the album goes on. Hitting classic metal anthemic highs with the thrilling fist-pumper that is Frankenstein. Delivering something more hard rock orientated and with groove on Man Up. Then throwing things back to when head-banging was all that was needed with The Reckoning.
At the halfway point, the feeling about this new album is positive. Proving to be fun, heavy, energised, and very anthemic. A statement to not be taken lightly when you consider just how immense this band’s back catalogue is.
Does the trend continue with the second half though? Of course, it does and few won’t be able to stop the s**t-eating grin from spreading across their face when they hear the groovy riffs of Nobody Gets Out Alive or the ballady Ravages of Time. Accept certainly aren’t being lazy here, and while the latter of these two might be less impactful, the variety is nothing to complain about.
The heavy metal goodness is back with speedy aplomb though on the heart-racing Unbreakable. A timely reminder that when this band wants to see some horns being thrown in their direction, they know exactly what to do. Something ever present as the album reaches its heady and hefty conclusion with a series of lovable bangers. First, another big sounding metal anthem in the form of Mind Games. Then, with some AC/DC like rock and roll with Straight Up Jack. Before things wrap up with a monstrous example of riffing on Southside of Hell.
Accept have delivered once again. Was there ever really any doubt?
